A teacher's glimpse on ZU

Hi, my name is Prof. Brab Otnased and I am teaching PR Strategy and Social Media at the ISS 2009 @ZU. I have to admit that not only the topic of this course, but also the location and my students are soooo amazing. It is a brilliant experience to work with young people that are so engaged and are even more into this topic than I am, because it is about the new world they live in. Therefore the class is a give and take.
Today the student's did some presentations on articles I gave them about various aspects of web 2.0 and social media like twitter, friendfeed or how to post videos on YouTube.
We are learning a lot without being chained to the oares. In the breaks you have the possibility to take a walk on the beach of Lake Konstanz or enjoy a healthy, but quite expensive lunch. ZU's cafeteria is always full of people, so if you are not eager to work you can have a nice chat and coffee instead.
I wonder if everthing here is organised so well in daily university life as well. It seems to me that the whole ISS is arranged by two teachers and two students, who even gave us their private phone numbers in case of emergency. Apparently it is more than just work being an

View from the classroom- International Spring School

Student post- Sabina Dieneman
As a regular student here at Zeppelin, it's been great to take part in the International Spring School. I've had a fantastic time in my class and have gotten to talk with students from all over. Experiences like this truly make Zeppelin an international school. Students first walk into the building with wide eyes, staring at the architecture, the open space, the overall design. After growing accustomed to my studies here, it's fun to see it all through fresh eyes.

Even if spring school was just an international party, it'd be a good time, but this entire week has been very educational. I am studying public relations with Dr. Barb DeSanto, a professor and the chair of the mass media department at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. There are many aspects to public relations that I am uneducated about. This seminar has been worthwhile and fun in many ways.

When International Spring School is over and everyone travels home by car, plane or train, the school will be quieter, empty. But the things we have learned and the connections made will continue to grow, echoing through the halls at ZU. For the students who return after ISS, we carry the experience of the 2009 Spring School with us. The event changes our educations, in small and big ways, but undoubtedly, it's a richer education because of it.

International Spring School 2009 at ZU

A guest post from Ruby Casellini

This is my third day at the International Spring School 2009 at ZU, Friedrichshafen, Germany. I received an email from my home university (USI) and it straight away caught my eye. It appeared to be the sort of experience which interests me, and which I wanted to be a part of. I had some basic expectations which were; to meet international people, to attend small classes where we could have group discussions and to discuss how social media differs in each culture. ZU is a very welcoming university, located on the Lake Constance with a very relaxed atmosphere. It is a very small community, about 600 students which in my opinion is better because with such a short stay here I am actually able to interact with a lot people. The ISS 2009 at ZU has been a great experience, I can apply what I have learned during this course at ZU to my courses at my university, I have met people from all around the world which I have added on facebook and I can now keep in touch with and I have finally been to Germany.
